The creation of this typographic exploration was to curate an original design for a monogram, utilizing grids to avoid stair-stepping and testing different ways to make a single letter as well as how to pair it within a larger group of letters. Before going in digitally, numerous renditions of varying styles were sketched using a grid, playing with the exaggerations of serifs, the height of stems, and the curvature of bowls. In the end, heftier stems, short serifs, and separating segments of the ‘M’ and the ‘B,’ achieved my search to develop a typeface that was robust without being overly masculine, yet chic and refined without being fragile

Revised Version

Kerning was increased, in addition to the negative space that separates the stroke and bowls of the ‘B.’ Overall, serifs were reduced to give a sleeker appearance. By condensing the stroke of the ‘L’ and shortening the arm, an area for the two other letters to nestle in was created, giving them a better space to live within.
